Picada

A picada is a selection of cold meats (salami, ham, mortadela, etc) accompanied by cheese (all sorts). That's in its basic form. A good picada, however, goes much further insofar as it includes bread, olives, nuts, veggies, dips ... in fact, the list is almost endless.
Picadas are traditionally served before an asado (Argentine barbeque) as a sort of starter. Needless to say, it isn't always very elaborate so as to not distract from what follows. However, in summer, a picada can become an entire meal, when its too hot to sit down and eat a proper midday meal.
The only limitation to a good picada is your imagination ...
For this picada I used salami, two kinds of cheese cubed, rolls that I toasted in the oven with olive oil and rosemary, green peppers cut into strips, leverwurst, raw mushrooms, sausage rolls, hard-boiled eggs and a few dips (cream cheese with crumbed veggie stock) as well as Djorn mustard.
